Involving the Private Sector
Being innovative through public-private partnerships

Partnership with the private sector has emerged as a new avenue of reforms. There is growing realisation that, given their respective strengths and weaknesses, neither the public sector nor the private sector alone can operate in the best interest of the health system. Under partnerships, public and private sectors can play innovative roles in financing and providing health care services and can address poor health service delivery by improving delivery mechanisms and increasing the pool of resources for health care. Involving the private sector in health reforms will focus on -

  • Strengthening the quality of services
  • Enhancing the role of elected local bodies in delivering better health services to the poor
  • Improving access to clinical investigations, affordable drug supplies, community ambulances and improved management of health facilities
  • Making health services accessible and affordable
