Access and Demand Services
Creating awareness of services for better health

India suffers from staggering child and maternal deaths each year. 20% of the world's maternal deaths occur in India, and more than two million children die annually; many from diseases that could easily be prevented. Over 40% of India's children are malnourished. Poor health insurance coverage and increasing poverty add to India's crisis with health, nutrition, and disease. The DFID -supported technical teams focus on strengthening state health systems to improve access, quality, and demand of basic health services. Some specific measures taken are -

  • Keeping communities well-informed about public and private primary health care services
  • Making sure that critical posts are filled-up to address shortage of health professionals
  • Reforming Behaviour Change Communication strategies
