While several innovative steps have been taken to make access to health services easier for many people in India, a lot more needs to be done to improve the quality of those services and make qualified health personnel and good health institutions more widely available.Therefore, health systems and the way they function are being reformed in several states of India.
DFID,while working with state governments in Orissa, Bihar, West Bengal,Madhya Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh to improve service and delivery, has funded and engaged Technical Assistance Support Teams, or TASTs, to work with these governments to improve the way the health system works.
The TASTs are made up of development and financial professionals who work closely with government officials, partners, and donors to bring positive changes to the health situation in the five states. The
DFID-supported technical teams in Orissa, Bihar, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh work with the Departments of Health andFamily Welfare, Women and Child Development, and other key departments to plan, monitor, and implement state health sector plans.
